Coral Red for Summer: en fuego!

Coral Reds

I am not usually one to pay much mind to trends…unless they are things that I just loved to bits anyway. Trends are useful in this case because it means that if you like a certain thing, while it is trendy you will be spoiled for choice. Two such colour trends that I have been completely taking advantage of are mint and the lovely orangey coral red that seems to be on everyone’s lips and nails this summer.

It was somewhat accidental. First off, I was hearing rave reviews of the Revlon Lip Butters, and since I really dislike lipstick but adore lip balms, I thought I would give one a go in Candy Apple Red. LOVE. It’s an amazing sheer orangeish-red that is just so flattering on my lips. I could go out with a bare face and just a slick of this and I look instantly polished. It’s also really friendly to my always-chapped lips. (PS: The Red Velvet colour is also good if you want a deeper red.)

Then, yesterday when I was killing time in Boots before a meeting, I came across the new Bourjois 1-second gloss gel nail colour in Grenadine Tonic. Just like the Revlon Lip Butter, this nail varnish is a sheer, transparent red-orange tint. I just put two coats on my nails and I am in LOVE. I don’t normally like nail varnish in “normal” red/pink colours, but since this is almost more like a glossy stain than a proper polish, it looks really sheer and summery, and the colour is just perfection. Again: LOVE. Actually, the sheerness reminds me a bit of that peel-off Tinkerbell nail polish I had as a kid, which just makes me love it even more.

My only worry is: lips and nails matching? Too matchy-matchy? Oh well, I’m loving it for now anyway.

  1. I’m a bit of an obsessive matchy matchier, I’d feel calm looking at your lips and nails both painted coral, if they mismatched I’d feel jarred – oh the curse of the oversensitive!
How was Mahiki? Did you get Prince Harry’s phone number?

  2. Love these two colors (coral is one of my faves). Gorgeous!

Tabs, do you match your toes, too? The thing is that I rarely wear “normal” coloured polish and I am not about to have blue/green/grey/Particuliere lips!

Mahiki was…interesting. Just posted about it. HRH Harry was not in residence, sadly, but we more than made up for it in shocking behaviour. He’s a bit young for me anyway!

Katherine: I’m a recent coral convert, but I’ll take any spot of brightness in the unending British drear right now.
